It can be very difficult to find the perfect time for training. Research points in many different directions. If it depended on me, it would be in the middle of your day. This means that if your circadian rhythms are correct, you should train around 12:00 - 15:00. There are many reasons for this answer.
1. When you wake up your blood sugar level is at a minimum. This is obviously going to impede strength and endurance. This is also the reason why people recommend doing morning exercise to burn fat, because the theory is that you will not burn sugar because your blood sugar is very low, instead your body will go for fat. How true that is, I'm not sure. In my opinion, it is better to train after a few meals because the blood sugar level is not so low, and you will, in turn, be slightly stronger, as some studies show. Also, if you happen to burn more fat by working out in the morning, would you not burn the same amount of fat by working out later in the day if you can train harder and at a faster pace than before?
2. Cortisol levels are highest in the morning until mid-day. Studies show that workout does not affect falling sleep. The reason why I would be worried about working out close to bedtime is that the quality of sleep could be affected. It may not affect you falling asleep, but sleeping is an extremely complex reaction. Who knows what's really going on. I would not want to stress myself too much before bed.
3. It has been shown that working out early in the day makes people workout at a steady pace. What this means is that people do not give up their workout routine and actually make it to the gym when they should. When people postpone working out until later in the day, there is a chance they may not do it eventually because of a hard day's work or some other reason. When it's done before, you'll be more likely to workout.
Conclusion
When you really think about it, the most important thing to remember is going to the gym to workout. Do not worry about the best time of day to train. If you have time and you want to train in what I would consider the best time to train, do it between 12pm and 3pm. If that time is not possible or just an inconvenience, then do not be stressed and workout when you can. The most important thing is consistency.
